 2-2    WEB PAGES

The sections of a website are called pages. So each link you click on will take you to a different "page" of the website.

So what pages do you want or need for your website?

Since most of my clients are small business owners, or artists and craftspeople who are just starting out with a website, here is what I would suggest.

You will always have a Home or Index page. This is the first page that people come to when they want to visit your website. So it needs to be a page that shows or tells people right up front what you are about. We'll go into that in more detail in the Marketing Module.

Another page that I would highly recommend is the Contact page. If you want people to know about you, they also need to be able to contact you. So on this page you would include all of the contact information that you want people to have. That could include:
                  • Phone numbers (work, business, cell)
                  • Fax Number
                  • E-mail
                  • Mailing address

Another page I would recommend is an About page. This page would tell your visitors about you, about your product or service, about your business, etc.

From there, you would add whatever Information pages you would want. For a business that might be a Products page. For an artist/craftsperson that could be a Gallery page. If you need to educate your visitors, you might want an Articles page.

Once you've gone through the Marketing Module, you'll probably have a better idea of which pages you want to include.

Once you've decided which pages you want on your website, you may want to think about what titles to give them. I would leave the Home page and the Contact page as is, but the rest can be titled whatever works best for you.

In the Links and Navigation section we'll talk about where to put those links so that your visitors can easily find them.

So for now, start listing what you think you might want for pages, and what information you might want on those pages. Go back to what you did in the "Why" section and start thinking about which page would best suit the information you listed there.
