SAMPLE WEBSITES
Now you get a chance to go explore. All the pictures down the left sides of these sections are samples of websites that I've done. Now I want to introduce you to some of them to show you what can be possible.
My primary clients are small business owners, artists and craftspeople, and small organizations. So I've set these up in those categories.
Read the description, then click on the image of that website to take you to the website, where you can explore for ideas.
Small or Home Businesses
One of my favorite art stores, this is the website for Cochrane's Paintbox Artist Supplies. What was fun about this website was finding a way to highlight as many of the products as we could. So I used the product photos to create the photo bars on the pages. I think it gives a sense of the variety, color and beauty of this unique store.
This is the website for my webdesign business. It's just plain and simple - which is exactly what I wanted. You might want to check out the Portfolio page which has pictures and links to various websites that I have done - there may be some extra ones there that aren't on this page.
This website was for a Renovations company. Check out the "Work Samples" page where you can click on the photos and a larger photo window will open. Also take a look at the background I created for this website - made to look like a tile pattern.
This is my dream village - a place where small business people and artists can come for resources and to learn from each other. Since this is a Home page, instead of links across the top or down the left sidebar, each "building" in this "village" is actually a link to someplace in the village.
This is the website you signed up at to get to this Webplanner Dashboard. This is a very simple website in terms of its design. That's because the most important thing on this website is the text - the purpose of which is to invite people to sign up for this "product" - even though in this case the product/information is actually free.
Artists and Craftspeople
This is an artist's website. We started with five pages, so this website is fairly straightforward and simple. The purpose here was to highlight her wonderful western art, so there's not much text on this website - it's primarily a visual one. The colors for the backgrounds were taken from one of the paintings - colors that I felt were common to most of her pieces, so they work well. I also wanted warm colors - which I felt suited the artist and her work.
Another artist's website. This one was more detailed, as you can see from the gallery pages that allow you to see up to 16 paintings on the one page simply by clicking on the thumbnail pictures or on the arrows. There are also more details in that each painting is numbered and named, and sizes, mediums and availability given. Again, the purpose here was to highlight her work, so other than the text section on the About page, this is also primarily a visual website.
A bronze artist's website. This is also a mostly visual site, however here we wanted to show works which are for sale - so the Bronzes page is basically a simple sales page. Here we show the pieces for sale and give all the pertinent details. From there the buyer contacts the artist and makes the purchase. On this website, I added a Blog for this artist as they travel frequently and this is their way of letting people know where they are at.
Small Organizations
This website for a western gospel artist not only tells about their ministry, it has a link to a blog which keeps people updated on their travels. There is also a Products page for his music CD's - and note that there are several audio links so you can listen to clips from some of the songs. Note that I used the colors and "barn board" from one of the photos to create the design for the website. Also, check out the Itinerary page and click on the link to their Calendar.
One of the longer and more detailed websites I've done. There were a lot of things that people wanted to know about, so we included a lot of different pages.
One interesting feature of this website was the Scrapbook page I created for them. You simply click on the links above the photo window and new photos come up.
There are a number of photo pages on this website - the most interesting one is probably the "Wedding" page with it's story of how the preacher met and married his wife! The backgrounds on this website are graphics files, instead of plain colors.
What might be helpful is to make a list of the websites here that you like - or the things on them that you like. You could also research other websites, particularly ones in the same field of business or art as yours to see how they present their work. Such a list would also be a help to your webdesigner.
Shortly after we began Songs of Faith Ministries, it became obvious that we needed a website to let churches and others know about our ministry, availability and products. Evelyn Marinoski worked closely with us to create a website design that has exceeded our expectations. The process was painless and, I can truthfully say, the results have been postive.
