 3-4    COPYWRITING

Copywriting (not to be mistaken with copyrighting) is about the copy, or text, you write for your marketing. There is a huge amount of information out there about copywriting, but here I will touch just briefly on a few simple basics.

The first and most important part of your copy is the headline. I've heard it said that it accounts for up to 80% of the success of your copy. Why? For one very simple reason. If the headline doesn't give the reader a strong enough reason to read the rest of the copy, then it won't matter one iota how good the rest of it is, if it never gets read, right?

So what can you do with the headline? Try to find the biggest problem or concern of your target market and then use the headline to mention that problem along with your best promise for how you can provide a solution to that.

From the headline, you go on into the main body of the copy. Here you need to tell the visitor more about what you have to offer. But - there is one huge issue to be aware of. As they say, your reader is listening to one station only - called WIIFM. In other words, What's In It For Me?

They really don't care much, if at all, about how wonderful you are and how amazing this product is, blah, blah, blah. What they want to know is what your product or service can do for them, what problem it can help them solve, how using your product or service will make their life easier, faster, better, etc. If you can write your marketing materials from the perspective of what this will do for them, you'll be miles ahead of most marketing.

In this part of your copy you also want to tell your prospect what makes you and your product or service unique or better than someone else in your field. What advantage would they gain by using you instead of someone else?

Here's another question to consider as you are writing your copy - what is your offer? What exactly are you offering them? Yes, first of all, it's the product or service. But is there a special price involved? Is there a time limit on this? Do you have different payment plans available? Or different payment options - ie, cash, check, credit card, etc.

And then back to the first section in this module, what exactly are you asking your reader to do as a response to your writing? Do you want them to sign up for something? Do you want them to click this link to buy the product? Do you want them to call you? To come to your store? Be as clear as you can about what you want them to do. And then tell them that as simply and clearly as you can.

There will be more information about copywriting in the Marketing Planner Dashboard, so head on over and check that out.
