Okay, what do I mean by a bit of both?

If you are a person who is reasonably computer literate and you enjoy working with computers, then you may want to do some of this yourself and have some done by someone else.

For example, something I have done with a number of my clients, to save them money on having me update website information for them, is to design the website with a blog as part of it. That way they can add posts to the blog which give visitors the updates and other ongoing information. Blogs are simple to work with, and most people can handle that quite nicely.

Another way I work with my clients is to design the website with sections that can be changed. For example, we may do some of the information as a pdf document. Then all they have to do is change the pdf to a new one, and upload it to their site. That also is not that difficult - and they don't need to learn any code to do that.

Another way I have offered my clients is to design the website for them, and then teach them some really simple parts of the coding so that they could go in and update the information they wanted. So far, though, no one has taken me up on that. :)
