Cochrane Homecheck's "Before-You-Leave Checklist"

Most times when you leave your home, it is for
travel reasons, so we have also created a Travel Checklist
for your convenience. We hope it gives you some valuable ideas and makes your travel easier.
Before you leave home, there are things that should be done. To make it easier for you,
here’s a list of some things you might want to check out:

____ Stop any routine deliveries (newspapers, milk, etc.)
____ Put lights, radio and TV on timers to give lived-in look and check to make sure the timers are working
____ Turn down thermostat
____ Turn down water heater
____ Lock all doors and windows
____ Store valuables in a safe place
____ Disable garage door opener
____ Notify your security company or local police
____ Unplug any appliances not needed while away or sensitive to power surges
____ Empty the dryer
____ Empty the dishwasher
____ Remove any perishables from fridge
____ Take out the garbage
____ Arrange for pet care
____ Turn off answering machine (or arrange for someone to take the messages – do not
leave message on machine that you are away)
____ Pay any bills that will be due while you are away – or arrange to have them paid
____ Arrange for pool maintenance
____ Arrange for house cleaning after you leave or before you return, if needed
____ Give set of keys to home manager or a friend
____ Arrange for mail to be collected and forwarded - or held at post office
____ Arrange to have house regularly checked while you are away
____ Arrange for plants to be watered and fertilized
____ Arrange for snow clearance in winter
____ Leave a list of service people in case of emergencies
____ Check water systems (faucets, toilets, hot water tank, sprinklers, etc)
____ Check appliances (fridge, freezer, furnace, air conditioner)
____ Arrange to have fliers and junk mail removed regularly
____ Arrange to have your lawn mowed
____ Arrange for watering of lawn and garden
____ Arrange for gardening and yard work to be done
