CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Italic Calligraphy is one of the most common of the calligraphy “hands” or alphabets. It is probably also one of the most versatile. Once you’ve learned the basic strokes that form this alphabet you can use it to create almost anything you want. Italic also lends itself very well to flourishing – that special extra touch!
This will be an introductory class, so we will cover the basics of calligraphy such as supplies & equipment, setting up for calligraphy, and terminology used in calligraphy. Then we’ll explore the strokes that form the letters. Once you’re comfortable with writing the letters we’ll start to explore some of the many ways you can use this alphabet. And yes, we will also do some flourishing!
We'll even do some projects that use calligraphy.
Handouts will be provided. Homework will be assigned. Bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, and we’ll have a great time.
Just a note about the length of the class. Calligraphy is not a speed-learning kind of class. It takes time to learn it well. I've tried doing this class in less time (4 weeks), but the results and the feedback were clear that there is just too much to learn well in that short a time.

#2501 BOOKBINDING - THE ACCORDION BOOK
CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Bookbinding is a lovely way to make special and personalized books for oneself or as gifts to give others. (A nice way to use calligraphy too!)
The accordion book may be one of the easiest and simplest books to make, but it can be anything from very basic and plain to as fancy as you want to make it.
This class will give you instructions in some of the basics of bookbinding - and believe me, they are fairly easy to do.
Once we have the basics covered with a simple version of this book, we will go on to explore other variations, such as a pocket accordion book, and more. You'll leave the class with several books of your own to take home as well as ideas for many more!
INSTRUCTOR: Evelyn Marinoski
Because bookbinding is such a natural fit with calligraphy, Evelyn has explored bookbinding quite thoroughly - everything from the basic and simple to hardcover books. You'll see examples from her personal collection of over 100 sample books that she has created.
