Writing Companions

Companions on our writing journey can be a special blessing. Here are some "writing companions" you may want to explore.

Writing Clubs
One way to find companions is to join - or start your own - writing club. There is much that one can learn from other writers.

Writing Courses
In one of the first writing classes I took, the instructor encouraged us to continue meeting as a group on our own after the class. A number of us did just that and it was a good experience.

Books
While not companions in a literal sense, books are also companions in a way. One lovely book about writing - and sharing that journey with another writer - is called "Friends for the Journey" by Madeleine L'Engle & Luci Shaw.

Correspondance
Find other writers to correspond with.

Become a writing buddy
Since April of 2009 I have had the great pleasure of sharing my writing journey with a fellow writing companion.

How that came to be is a story all its own, but the day we began our journey together was the beginning of something neither of us had expected.

The writing poured out of us. As if we had just been waiting for something like that. We began writing a private blog together.

That sparked other writing too. I started a novel. My writing companion began writing the stories she has been dreaming of for years.

Toward the end of our first year of blog-writing together we began to realize that our blog contained the raw material for a book - and so we are editing and shaping our writing journey into a book that we hope to publish later this year.

If ever you should be so fortunate as to find a kindred writer, treasure that deeply.
